Introduction

Uthungulu Investment Holdings Limited (“Uthungulu”) was incorporated on the 26th of March 1997 as an investment company specifically, although not exclusively, aimed at affording persons who were previously excluded from mainstream business the opportunity to participate in the risks and benefits of organized business.

To realize these ideals, the company offered its shares to the public during the period 2 April 1998 to 30 June 1998. The demand for the company shares exceeded the directors’ expectations and the company now has a shareholder base of ± 1900 direct shareholders and ± 30 000 indirect shareholders through investments clubs, close corporations and the National Teachers Union who hold shares in the company. The overwhelming majority of Uthungulu’s shareholders come from historically disadvantaged communities.

Uthungulu’s efforts since its incorporation have resulted in it emerging as a significant renaissance corporate. Representing a new waive of black economic empowerment, which is broad based.
